Abstract
Within this authoritative study of the history of American film in the 1950s, volume 7 of the Cinema History Project, my chapter surveys and analyses the nature and significance of the Blacklist Era, both in terms of the anti-Communist politics of the time, and in terms of the film culture of that period.
