Abstract
Driven by individual urban mobility requirements, new vehicle concepts are being investigated to ease congestion problems and reduce vehicle emissions. The Centre for Power Transmission and Motion Control at the University of Bath (UK) is partaking in an EC funded research project to design and develop the chassis of a novel city vehicle. This paper reviews existing tilting three-wheeled vehicle concepts, examining different wheel and tilting strategies. The fundamental aspects of these unique vehicles' handling and active control techniques are examined. Important considerations at the concept design stage of such a vehicle are highlighted.
