Abstract
A PZT/Polymer composite with connectivity in three dimensions (3-3) has been investigated in terms of piezoelectric coefficients and permittivity by analytical and numerical models and compared with experimental results for hydrophone applications. The polymer volume content of the composite was varied from 0 to 91% in order to obtain a composite with improved sensitivity (g(h)), high actuating ability (d(h)) and low density compared to monolithic PZT. Although the numerical and analytical models were in agreement with the experimental work, the experimental results were lower than the proposed models. The discrepancies are discussed in terms of polymer type, connectivity and permittivity.
