Abstract
This paper presents a methodology for identifying whether the use of a Decision Support System (DSS), as an aid in fault diagnostics at the shop floor level is applicable for a company. The aim of this methodology is to ascertain any trends in the use of DSSs within electronic assembly, and use the findings to aid companies in their decision making process. A pilot study has been undertaken, with information being gathered via the use of questionnaires, telephone interviews and company visits. The findings are reported and a methodology for DSS selection is introduced
