Abstract
This paper presents a solution for the automation of powder processing for tablet production within the pharmaceutical industry. This work is placed in context with the advances in automation currently being undertaken. A computerised single-vessel prototype is introduced which eliminates the need for the conventional eight distinct unit operations by combining these within a single-vessel. Validation of the single-vessel is achieved by examining the processing of lactose powder and monitoring the results. The results indicated that blending could be achieved with 5% certainty
