      Abstract

This paper attempts to summarise some of the main ‘lessons’ which have emerged from Phase 3 of the JISC-funded Electronic Libraries Programme (eLib). It is primarily a view from the inside of eLib. It incorporates contributions from eLib3 project managers and other stakeholders. It is not a formal evaluation of the programme; this will be done in Spring 2001. Rather it is an attempt to synthesise some of the key issues which are important to those involved in the ‘hybrid library’, ‘clumps’, and ‘projects to services’ strands of eLib3. Some comments are also made about ‘digital preservation’ (the remaining strand of eLib3). This does not mean that eLib3 stakeholders will all necessarily endorse every point, but that at least some of them have identified many of the points outlined as important and worth communicating. The lessons below are followed by recommendations for further work.
