Abstract
To model a transmission line for the study of the travelling wave phenomena, this paper proposed a method to determine the number of equivalent Π sections in the transmission line model in accordance with the travelling wave frequency range of interest and the model accuracy required. By analyzing the fault transients of the multiple Π models and comparing them with those of the distributed-parameter transmission lines, an index to evaluate the accuracy of the transmission line models is proposed. These results are especially useful for the study of the travelling wave phenomena when a laboratory model of the transmission line needs to be established.
